John Tries Bananas

You're probably going to get sick and tired of watching these videos, but I plan to show a video each and every time John tries a new food. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

John's New Crib

In an earlier post, I mentioned that we were going to get our John a new crib. Well, we picked it up at JC Penney today. (Here's a good savings tip: If you get something big from JCP, have it delivered to the store that is closest to you. It'll save you a ton on shipping charges. Of course, if you don't have a store near you, that won't work. Sorry Upshaws of Mountain Home, Arkansas.)

So, we drove to the store and were met there by the ever gracious Shawna Wiseman. She was kind enough to provide the transport for the crib. Sorry, it wouldn't fit in a Chevy Malibu or a Saturn Ion. Anywho, Shawna brought Alyssa with her and she was as entertaining as ever. She was all hopped up on sugar after a birthday party.

When we reached our abode, I started to build the crib. Online review mentioned that it would take about an hour to put it together and I'd have to agree. It was pretty easy to put it together (Aside from a couple of missteps using the 50mm screws instead of 70mm screws. Thanks to Shawna for helping me figure that out.) It's quite sturdy and quite nice with a cherry wood finish. Plus, it converts to a day bed and a full-sized bed with a few additional parts (to be stored at the Gonzalez storage garage...sorry Mami and Papi.)

So, after a long day, Johnnykins is off to Lilly White's Party (that's an old way of saying off to sleep.). He looks so tiny in his new crib, but soon enough, he'll just be too big and I'll have to turn it into a day bed. Where does the time go?
Now that you've seen his crib, his kitchen, and his playthings, you need to get out!

Notes From John's Desk

About 7-weeks ago, I mentioned my friend Alexis had to have some surgery. She had it on Wednesday and she's doing ok. I'll provide updates as they are passed along.
Please keep her in your prayers. She's such a sweet little girl.

Johnny's Little Mommy

John has many friends. Whenever he's around Alyssa, she always acts like a little mommy around him. She loves to hug him and play with him. We are fortunate that she is such a good little mommy. Thanks Alyssa.

Like Father Like Son

Our John is a well rounded reader. He truly enjoys the books his mother reads to him and puts up with my voice when I read to him. My voice isn't as calming and soothing as Maureen's.

Recently, he has discovered the wonderful world of comic books with me. I remember the first comic book I bought at Continental Comics in Northridge (G.I. Joe # 14 for the record). I hope that he'll remember the first real comic he buys on his own.
When he has accompanied me to Golden Apple, Mrs. Liebowitz, the owner, is always so happy to see him. She says that comic book fans need to start early. For the most part, he's been quite cooperative and hasn't had any melt downs as I go through the aisles. The one time that he was getting fussy, a kind hearted John Singleton allowed me to go ahead of him at the cash register. He said, "It's the least I can do for a fellow comic book fan named John."
Don't worry. I'm not one of those freaks that doesn't read his comic books and just stores them. I plan to enjoy them and I plan to let John read them when he's old enough.

John's Ear Infection

Whilst in Houston last week, Maureen sent me a text message that John had an ear infection. I feared that he would hate his medicine since it looks like Pepto Bismol and we all know how horrible that can taste.

Well, much to my surprise. He loves his Amoxicilin. Thank God he loves it. I was fearful that he'd be one of those kids that had to have suppositories. I don't know about you, but I have absolutely NO FOND MEMORIES ABOUT SUPPOSITORIES FROM CHILDHOOD!!! Fortunately, that's a bridge we won't have to cross because Dr. K does not believe in them.

You Call This Kid a Cracker Jack

If I had it in me, Come Sail Away would be playing as your read this entry. Maureen was kind enough to pick up this outfit at Marshall's a while back and he wore it to Church yesterday. All we need is a sailor's cap and a little dog and he'd be the boy on the package of Cracker Jacks. Don't worry, he won't get any of those tasty treats any time soon. We wouldn't want to rot his two teeth before his first birthday. Plus, Doctor K would have a fit. Since we like Dr. K, we follow his rules.

An Apple a Day?

He doesn't seem to like the apples. Maybe it's the sweetness of it? Or, maybe he's like daddy and only likes bland flavorless foods? John needs to learn that apples are one of a few fruits to which daddy isn't allergic. We all know that daddy is "allergic" to most fruits and vegetables.

John's Favorite Book

John loves to read Peekaboo with his mother. There's something soothing about her voice and he loves to sit still with her. If I try to read with him, he turns into Mr. Cranky. I suppose my tones isn't as soft. Oh well, look at the sheer look of delight on our little boy.

Our John and His Crib

Our John likes his crib, but he's going to get a new one. The one we has seen better days and we're going to replace it. Mama has been researching cribs on the internet and it looks like she's made her selection. I'll be sure to post my trials and tribulations as I struggle to build the crib. It'll be loads of fun. I just know it.

Talky Talkerson

It appears our boy is a bit of a yakety-yak. When he starts talking, he just does not stop. He's at the point where he's stringing syllables along like "ma" "ba" "da" "ay" and "dee". Sometimes, it sounds like he's saying "dada" and other times it sounds like he's saying "mama". It's so entertaining to hear him speak...most of the time.

This morning, he decided to start talking at 5:15 AM and he didn't stop until he fell back asleep at 6:10 AM after a bottle. We had a talk with him last night where we told him that we expected him to sleep until about 7 AM. Being a bullheaded young man, he just did not listen. What are we to do?

No Story - Just Cute Photo

Father Son Activities

When he's old enough (probably about 2-years old), I'm going to introduce John to the wonderful world of James Bond movies. I can remember looking forward to ABC showing James Bond movies over the summer. Thankfully, channels like Spike and Encore tend to show 24-hours of James Bond films 3 or 4 times a year. Anywho, John will learn how to be a real man from James Bond. He'll know what champagne's to drink, how to mix a vesper martini, how to dress, how to drive a snazzy car, and how to deliver a witty line as he leaves a precarious situation. Now, I'm not going to be picky about which James Bond since each of the actors who has portrayed 007 brings something different to the character. I'd like John to be a pastiche of them all.

The Week in JD's Life

There wasn't anything too interesting this week in JD's life. His teeth are becoming more prominent. The bottom two are no longer just tiny little buds. They have poked through and are on the way to being full fledged baby teeth. I would have said milk teeth, but I just don't like that term. It's odd in my humble opinion.

He's doing quite well on his solids. He no longer cries when we feed him. He eats like a little wolf. He can't get the spoon in his mouth quick enough. If he could speak, I'm sure he'd be quoting Oliver by saying, "Can I please have some more?" Actually, he really should have said, "May I please have some more?", but I'm not going to correct an orphan from a classic novel and film. Anywho, it's a great joy to watch the boy eat his new foods. This week, it's sweet potatoes.

Earlier in the week, John was feeling a bit under the weather. It seems he may have caught a cold that both Maureen and I had last week. He didn't sleep well Monday or Tuesday. Actually, he really didn't sleep. He'd wake up every hour and we averaged about 3.5-hours sleep those two nights. Finally, on Wednesday night, John was able to sleep through the night. Maureen made a very funny comment as she put him to sleep. She said, "Maybe tonight is the turning point?" Sure enough, it was.

So, to sum it up, John had an average week, but he's learned to enjoy his foods. And, he loves the "Morning's Here" song that we sing to him every morning.

Mommy's Little Preppie

Guess who decided to dress the boy like this for Mass at St. John Vianney today? It sure wasn't me. Mommy didn't tuck in his shirt. I would have tucked in his shirt, but that's just me. In high school, we used to get detentions if we didn't have our shirts tucked in.
Johnny will have to wear something special to Mass next week. It's the last official Mass at the church.

John Digs the Peas

As you can see, he took to the peas much better than he did the carrots. I like the way he makes "nom nom nom" sounds like Cookie Monster.

This Is What We Are Going to Sing to John First Thing In The Morning

You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. Not only is it a happy song, but it's sung to the tune of Chuck Mangionne's "Feels So Good."
