This Week in the Life of JD

Let's see where can we begin. Of course, we have the delightful video of our little boy making a nice little crawl in an attempt to get some keys. That boy just loves keys. We're so proud of him. He's right on track for being a super genius.

Then again, I was a bit dismayed at him yesterday because he threw a fit at his hair cut. How am I supposed to take him to Jerry the Barber if he doesn't behave well at The Yellow Balloon? Jerry has already told me that he does not like to cut small children's hair until they can sit still in the chair. I am going to be mortified if Jerry says he won't cut John's hair. Oh well, we'll give it another year at the Yellow Balloon before we move it over to Jerry if he hasn't retired by then. Anyway, he no longer looks like a hippie, so we are pleased. Adrianna, John's stylist, does areally good job at The Yellow Balloon.

Today, we had a fun filled day that started with Mass at St. Anastasia. Some might argue that's not exactly a fun way to start the day, but John had a field day crawling, or trying to crawl, up the aisle. After that, we went to our favorite restaurant in Marina del Rey, Tony P's. Being the good boy that he is, John sat in his high chair and enjoyed a lovely meal of peas and pears. He was such a good boy and waited until Maureen and I had finished our meals.

To cap off our lovely day, we took a lovely stroll around the grounds of Park La Brea this afternoon. We decided to see if John would do some crawling on a blanket. He was hesitant at first because he just didn't know what to make of the fountain. It would turn on and off. He was transfixed by it, but he eventually warmed up and started to play around on the blanket. Maureen took a lovely series of photos that will be available to those on the photo subscription service. We call them, "John in the City, Part II". If you look closely at the video, you can see the purple flowers that were falling off the jacaranda trees.

On a final note (if you can make it through all this woolgathering of mine), John has recently started having interesting bowel movements. They look like little milk duds, so if you are at our place and you see what you think is a milk dud on the floor, DO NOT PICK IT UP WITH YOUR HAND!!! It may just be one of his little poop balls that rolled out of the diaper as we were changing him.

John Sort of Crawls

When I arrived at Grammy and Grampy G's house today to pick up John, my father proudly showed me video of Our John starting to crawl. Take a look at this early attempt. I thought that I'd put a little music, Promontory from the soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans to be precise, since John is crossing into a new frontier.

P.S. Thanks to Grandpa for shooting the video. Also, thanks to Cousin Ana for showing JD how to crawl properly. He'll get it someday.

Johnny Does Not Like Joe's Ohs

Dr. K said that John can start eating Joe's Ohs (think Cheerios without something or other that makes them bad for babies). Anywho, John wasn't crazy about them today as you can see.

Let's Get Physical

Watch as John does push-ups to his favorite song by James Blunt and Telly. At least it's not Mmmmbop, the Scatman, or Blue Da Boo Dee Da Boo Da Boo Da Boo Dee.

Johnny at the Drive In

John enjoys a good short film. He often takes his sports car to the internet drive-in to see what's new and exciting. Of late, he's really taken a liking to Sesame Street. Below you'll see him watching James Blunt and Telly sing "My Triangle". As you know from an earlier post, he loves Andrea Bocelli and Elmo's "Time to Say Goodnight". Last, but not least, he just loves Feist singing, "1-2-3-4 Monsters on the Floor".

Say It Ain't So, Manny!!

Our John was saddened to hear the news of Manny Ramirez's suspension. He forgives and will welcome Manny back with open arms in 48-games.

Splashy Splasherstein

In an earlier post, I mentioned that Little Man Jones was not a fan of taking baths. Well, he's changed his tune now that he has discovered the wonderment of SPLASHING!!

Also, if you watch the second clip, you'll get a look at his million dollar smile...all five teeth. Currently, he's having some teething issues because he has three new teeth coming in. He's trying not to be a pain, but our Little Man Jones has been waking up every 45-minutes for the last couple of nights.

John Does The Army Crawl

John's been taking his sweet time with his crawling. We were beginning to think that he just didn't want to crawl and he was going to go directly to the walking. Well, take a look at this video. It is quite apropos that he is doing the Army Crawl over to my copy of GI Joe the Best of Larry Hama. Yes, that is my hand snatching it away at the end there. That is one of daddy's books that baby John cannot touch until he is older and knows how to respect books.

John Talks

On a Serious Note

John urges all his voting age readers to vote NO on all 6 ballot measures in the California Special Election on May 19th. If you are a fan of taxation without representation, vote yes, but I believe our forefathers founded this nation to prevent that from happening!!! California has already been socked with taxes because the state legislature could not control its spending. What's to prevent it from raising taxes, yet again, when they get to another budget impasse. DAMN THE MAN!! SAVE THE EMPIRE!!!

Boy's Weekend

This weekend is Maureen's high school reunion. I'm not saying which since it's not polite to say it, but let's put it this way, my 20th is coming up in two year and I graduated 2-years after Maureen. Those of you who can put two and two together can figure it out.

On Saturday night, some of her classmates decided to have a pre-reunion dinner. Why? I cannot say. It makes no sense to me since they are going to see each other at lunch on Sunday. Anywho, Johnny and I stayed home and enjoyed some fine films on Pay Per View, JCVD (it's nice to see Jean Claude Van Damme in something that wasn't made in Eastern Europe for $1MM and the fact that he could poke fun at himself was quite nice. He does give a great monologue about his life.) and Goal 2: The Dream Continues (it's nice to see that Santiago helped Real Madrid win the European Cup final, but casting Nick Cannon as a star player for Arsenal made no sense). Actually, John fell asleep during JCVD and I continued to enjoy the films.
Maureen's getting ready for her luncheon and I haven't planned any activities for the boys. Maybe, I'll just let him run himself ragged in his little red car or I'll just let him jump around in his jumper for a while.
He's been a little off the last week since 3 new teeth are coming in. I don't blame him for being fussy or cranky, but Motrin for infants helps out quite a bit. He's had a few issues with bowel movements, but the Gerber prunes have been doing their job.
Finally, he enjoys watching Elmo's world. It's like there are subliminal messgages in the Elmo's World song. Look at the grin on the boy's face. He could catch flies with that open mouth as well.

John's Second First Communion

We had the distinct pleasure to attend the St. Anastasia First Communion...sorry...First Eucharist ceremony yesterday (I just don't like the way that sounds. It sounds like some weird Evangelical type of ceremony). Actually, Maureen is contractually obligated to attend. Me, I was there as a guest of the Lopez Ohana. Their oldest, Dylan, was participating.

For the most part, John was a good little trooper. He did get a little fussy because he was so gosh darned tired. He kept on rubbing his eyes with his wubbie, but he couldn't fall asleep with all the singing. He did make a little friend with a nice little English 13-month old. She kept on reaching out to touch him. He then tried to do the same, but I wouldn't let him. The boy's nails are as sharp as an eagle's talons. He wouldn't let me cut them yesterday.

I do have to point out that I liked the St. Brendan's First Communion more because it was more like mine. They didn't attempt to involve all the kids and it just flowed a little better. I'm not saying that St. Anastasia's was horrible because it wasn't. Maureen's favorite part is when they call all the kids up to surround the altar during the transubstantiation. Yes, that's a nice touch and all, but I'm more of a traditionalist. Plus, the St. Brendan's ceremony was an hour long. St. Anastasia tended to lag at 80-minutes (Communion seemed to take 20-minutes) . I am not big on large ornate cermonies.

Fortunately, I had some help from John's little mommy, Miss Alley Cat. She was kind enough to help feed him and rock him in the church.
