Guess Who Loves Babar the King of the Elephants

We picked up some Babar books for John when he was probably about 5-month's old at Chevalier Books. He really hadn't touched them until about 3 weeks ago. I decided to pull them out and see if the'd sit through them. Not only does he enjoy listening to the stories, but he recognizes some of the landmarks from Small World at Disneyland. Enjoy John as he looks through his book and sings for your pleasure.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

Sorry for the delay in posting. First, the boys were sick. Then, Maureen and I got it. She got it worse. She had pink eye. After that, the boys had pink eye. Everyone is almost better. More to post later.

Jesus Milk

I was getting John some milk this afternoon. It was a half gallon from Trader Joes. John turns to me and says, "Look, Jesus is having milk." I said, "I beg your pardon?" He said, "Look, there's Jesus." He made me turn the carton around and showed me the image of a man with a beard milking a cow. It's good that he knows who Jesus is, but we need to help him distinguish between people with beards and The G.O.D. If we're not careful, he'll stop calling the Orthodox Jews cowboys and start calling them Jesus. I think they'd much rather be called cowboys than Jesus. Don't you?

Cereal

In the past, Our John would enjoy his cereal dry. We'd try to get him to eat it with milk; however, he would just protest and say no. Much to my surprise, he asked me for cereal and milk last night. I was so proud of him. He even held the spoon correctly, sort of.

Anywho, I was so impressed that I had to tell Maureen immediately. She was less enthused since she'd seen it many times before. Oh well, I guess I'll be the last one to know.

Night Fun

As we prepare to say goodnight, John likes to play a few games. If we haven't already done so, we'll start at the train table where John lines up all his Thomas trains and keeps them separate from the other trains. I suppose he's a segregationist in that way, but he makes me sit down in his tiny blue chair next to him.
Next, he'll pick up our family camera and start taking pictures. In most cases, his fingers are in front of the lense, so you'll se a great shot of his little digits, but once in a while, he strikes gold with his shots.
Our final step is to go into his room and play a couple of games. First, we'll turn off all the lights and play "Shadows". To play this, you need flashlights. You basically just shine the light on the walls and make shadows. John also takes this time to say "I'm looking for clues." He'll pick up an imaginary clue and give it to me. After that, the lights come back on and he starts to play with his "special" tracks while I read to him. Tonight, we read a couple of Babar books. In one of them, Babar and his family took a trip around the world. At certain points, John said, "Look, it's Small World." Sure enough, he recognized one of the landmarks from It's A Small World.

Fun in the Jungle

Fun Today

We went to the Farmer's Market in Hollywood again today to get some produce. For John, he just got to enjoy all the free samples under the sun. He particularly liked the fresh strawberries. He hasn't quite figured out that you don't eat the stems, but that's ok. He's only two. He also enjoys the fancy ice cream vendor. He loves the chocolate and enjoys all the free samples of the hand crafted flavors. He particularly likes the sample spoons since they are rather small. He got upset at Maureen for throwing out one of his little spoons this morning. He's got quite the temper that one does.

Fun at More Foutain

After their naps, Maureen took the boys for a lovely trip to the park on the other side of the tracks, the nice side. Actually, she had to go drop off our rent at the leasing office and decided to take them for a nice outing since it has been dreary around here.

As always, John just loved roaming around the grounds and playing in "the jungle." He actually played with a little girl in there for a while until she left. He didn't realize she had gone and started to say, "Little girl, where are you?" The biggest draw, to John, happens to be "More Fountain." He could just sit there and watch the water for hours. He even got to see some ducks in the fountain yesterday.
Lastly, Maureen and boys had dinner at the cafe by the fountain. John just loves the caprese sandwich. Myself, I go for their prosciutto sandwich, but it's not as good as the prosciutto sandwich at the Larchmont Village Wine Spirits and Cheese. Anywho, everyone had a good time, except for daddy doing the laundry.

John Gets a Haircut

As many of you know, our John hates to have his hair cut. We think it's the noise of the clippers that freaks him out, but he just hates it. He's fine as we drive up to the Yellow Balloon. As soon as we step inside, he starts to freak out and scream like there is no tomorrow. Yesterday was no different, except that he had a new hair cutter, Maiza.
It started out rather poorly. Our John was as squirly as always and howling like a banshee; however, as time went on, the shrieks stopped. How did Maiza work that miracle? She brought him an old Fisher Price radio/tv toy that played music and she brought out a birthday cake. Soon enough, he was singing and having a grand old time. It wasn't too drastic a cut since his hair was still growing in from his buzz in Decemeber, but he got rid of his little Jewish boy curls that made Maureen call him Effraim at times.

To top things off, we decided he was finally old enough to have a lollypop and boy did he like that. Afterward, we walked across the street to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for some chocolate milk. We asked if he liked gettin his hair cut and he said, "Yes!" Methink that he likes the candy and chocolate milk.
