Night Fun

As we prepare to say goodnight, John likes to play a few games. If we haven't already done so, we'll start at the train table where John lines up all his Thomas trains and keeps them separate from the other trains. I suppose he's a segregationist in that way, but he makes me sit down in his tiny blue chair next to him.
Next, he'll pick up our family camera and start taking pictures. In most cases, his fingers are in front of the lense, so you'll se a great shot of his little digits, but once in a while, he strikes gold with his shots.
Our final step is to go into his room and play a couple of games. First, we'll turn off all the lights and play "Shadows". To play this, you need flashlights. You basically just shine the light on the walls and make shadows. John also takes this time to say "I'm looking for clues." He'll pick up an imaginary clue and give it to me. After that, the lights come back on and he starts to play with his "special" tracks while I read to him. Tonight, we read a couple of Babar books. In one of them, Babar and his family took a trip around the world. At certain points, John said, "Look, it's Small World." Sure enough, he recognized one of the landmarks from It's A Small World.
